The Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park has provided an urban oasis for countless visitors for over 50 years. Bubbe and Zayde’s Place |
Bubbe and Zayde’s Place (grandma and grandpa in Yiddish) is a residential care facility for Jewish seniors. Six residents live in each house, and keep their own schedule, habits, and routine – while receiving the individual attention and support they require. On Mitzvah Day, we will be going as a group to do some Jewish musical entertainment for the residents. If you play an instrument, please feel free to bring it along! |

Hemopet Lifeline |
For more than 20 years, Hemopet has been a pet lifeline. They established the first non-profit national animal blood bank, which is a leader in its field. Their greyhound rescue program known around the world has re-homed more than 1500 dogs from the racing industry and placed them as family companions. Their educational programs for children in inner city schools and people with special needs have taught the community that loving an animal translates into being loving to people. These retired greyhounds need your love and attention! Walk and play with them at their Garden Grove home. If you choose this activity, towels, blankets, and stuffed toys are always needed and appreciated. |

As one of the oldest and largest shelters in Orange County, OCIS serves more than 2,000 individuals each year. Come with the group to clean and organize the children’s activity room, and do some general sprucing up. |

Wise Place |
WISE Place offers housing and support services for homeless women who are committed to changing their lives. WISE Place has an 85-year history of caring for local women. By meeting basic needs such as housing, food, clothing, physical and emotional nourishment, as well as vocational and life skills training, WISE Place is one of the few places these women can go to begin again. The center needs us to do some window washing, painting, and vegetable and flower planting. |

Silverado Nature Clean-up |
We are privileged to live near an ecological and recreational paradise known as the Santa Ana Mountains. Our mountains are rich with biological diversity, including endemic plant and animal species that can be found nowhere else on earth. Unfortunately, the Santa Ana Mountains are highly threatened by pollution, habitat degradation, abuse, and neglect. Joel Robinson of Naturalist For You will be leading us to help clean up Silverado Canyon, one of the many precious canyons within the range. We will pick up litter and learn about the plants and wildlife that benefit from our mitzvah. There will be an opportunity to cross a flowing creek, visit a rock pool, pass through an oak woodland, and enjoy the vibrant scenery. For this activity, a parking pass will need to be purchased for $5. Details will be provided to participants. |

The Grand Street Center |
This center is a project of the First Presbyterian Church of Orange. It serves many community functions, and on Sunday evenings, a dinner is served to local homeless people. Our synagogue has been involved in preparing and serving these dinners. For Mitzvah Day this year, we are going to clean the kitchen from top to bottom, and organize the pantry. |

They will hear a story, sing songs, and make placemats for Bubbe and Zayde’s Place. When they are done, they will be able to play outside on the preschool playground until the BBQ. |
